It’s hard to forget the Kevin Hart controversy that plagued the 2019 Academy Awards after the comedian and actor stepped down as host following the uncovering of homophobic tweets from 2009 to 2011. And just as Hart experienced shame from the media and greater public, there was also great support from the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen DeGeneres. Now, as the talk show host has seen widespread backlash after multiple allegations of poor workplace behaviour, Hart has defended DeGeneres.

Taking to Instagram earlier this month, Hart published a lengthy caption in support for his fellow celebrity, calling her “one of the dopest people on the f—— planet.”

It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly. I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the fucking planet. She has treated my family and my team with love and respect from day 1. The internet has become a crazy world of negativity….we are falling in love with peoples down fall. It’s honestly sad…When did we get here? I stand by the ones that I know and that I love. Looking forward to the future where we get back to loving one another….this hate shit has to stop. Hopefully it goes out of style soon….This post is not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences….It’s simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen…

“She has treated my family and team with love and respect from day 1,” he wrote. “The internet has become a crazy world of negativity… we are falling in love with peoples down fall. It’s honestly sad.” He goes on to ensure his followers his message is “not meant to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences” but to “show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen.”

This weekend, the pair were seen out for lunch at Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito, California.

Hart’s response was of similar velocity following a public manic episode from Kanye West just weeks ago. He reportedly travelled to West’s ranch in Wyoming to check in on the rapper.
