Rock legend, actor, father to a future legend, Lenny Kravitz has made his debut on TikTok bringing back an equally iconic legend in the process: a massive brown scarf.

“Grab your big scarf, it’s the first day of fall,” Kravitz says as he grins at the camera.

Context. Back in 2012, Kravitz was papped as walking through New York wearing the oversized knitted accessory. It’s appearance immediately became iconic, and spawned endless memes in the years following. It was so unforgettable that Kravitz was questioned about it six years later when he appeared on The Tonight Show and host Jimmy Fallon reminded him of the photo.

“But Lenny, this is not a scarf. It’s a blanket.”

To his credit, Kravitz explained that at the time, he lived in the Bahamas and he wasn’t used to the cold weather. And he’s a singer who needs to keep his neck warm.

Regardless, the image set the standard for cozy boy autumns forever more. And the return of the scarf is a seasonal fixture, akin to birds flowing south for winter or hot cross buns in the supermarket three months before Easter actually hits.

So far, the video of Kravitz crooning to the camera about the shift in season has hit almost 6 million views and that feels correct.

After cold launching his TikTok account with a post as iconic and referential as that, Kravitz’ biggest concern is how to follow it up. We have no doubt it will be equally cool.
