It has been a long time coming for James Bond 25, No Time To Die. After the ongoing health crisis squashed its initial release back in April, the film is gearing up for a new release come November. Following the release of a fresh action-packed trailer last week, fans are now getting further teasers into the characters behind the latest 007 instalment – meet Safin.

Elusive on and off the screen, when it was announced Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek would front the character, not much else was known about the villain. Speaking to Empire in late 2019, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli described Safin as a “super villain”. And in a new featurette shared overnight, we’ve finally seen him in full detail.

“What he wants and what he’s willing to do makes him a very frightening character,” says director Cary Joji Fukunaga in the video. “Both personally to Bond, and also on a global level.”

The origin story of Safin is still not clear, but we do see a potential clue which depicts a football match. Viewers are given more detail on his disfigured face as well as the character’s maniac tendencies which leads him to commit violent murders. “We both eradicate people to make the world a better place,” Safin tells Bond.

“He’s quite unique,” Malek explained to Empire. “He’s very complex. Daniel [Craig] calls him ‘misunderstood.’ But I had the most extraordinary time going head-to-head with [Craig]. He is a consummate professional…”
