If you missed out on the very limited collection available at the launch of their first bricks and mortar store, pay it no mind: Song for the Mute will be launching their second global collaboration with adidas online on Friday, October 20, including a range of ready to wear and of course the ever coveted sneaker. This time, Song for the Mute x adidas 002 will include the iconic adidas Campus footwear silhouette in black and beige, the cornerstone for the collection and a style that sold out within hours of the George Street doors opening.
The shoe features a frayed raw-edged canvas upper, a substantial rubber sole, and steam-punk-inspired metallic eyelets, evoking a poignant sense of nostalgia. It’s a footwear embodiment of the in-between, the blurred lines, and stark juxtapositions.
Lyna Ty, creative director of Song for the Mute, continues to bring her modernist vision to heritage silhouettes, crafting an apparel range that complements the footwear. The collection includes emerald green windbreakers, terrestrial brown shorts, gradient t-shirts brimming with nostalgia, zip-up shirts, and side zip pants in hyper-vibrant lime and subdued charcoal. These garments are meticulously constructed from wave and perforated fabrics, featuring patent zippers, rubber-dipped cord details, and adidas’ iconic three-stripes in tonally contrasting textured tape, creating a vibrant fusion of aesthetics.
Photographer Atsushi ‘Jima’ Nishijima, celebrated for candid film set photographs, captures the essence of this collection and the urban energy it embodies in the accompanying campaign. Showcasing the dichotomy of city life, it reflects the coexistence and intersections of people’s lives in the bustling streets of New York.
Stylist Stephen Mann enhances the collection’s vision by incorporating pieces from the subjects’ own wardrobes, creating a blend of unique personas and fashion statements. From vivid bouquets paired with smocks to the juxtaposition of a shirt and tie against a three-stripe charcoal tracksuit, the collection showcases a diverse range of styles and individuality.
