Just in case you didn’t get enough of the Fab Four in epic The Beatles: Get Back doco on Disney+, a cinematic release of their iconic Rooftop Concert on 30 January, 1969 on top of the Apple Corp headquarters on Savile Row is now coming to IMAX cinemas in Victoria on February 10.

Just after Valentine’s Day. A perfect way to extend the romance with a concert.

The 60-minute special, Get Back: The Rooftop Concert, will be shown in full and maximised for IMAX-quality visuals and sound. Basically, this replay will actually sound better than the live event.

Thanks to Peter Jackson’s brilliant if admittedly long doco, a new wave of Beatlemania has swept over the audiences as it reveals the tensions and affection that each of the band members had with each other throughout their lives.

“Ever since Peter Jackson’s beautiful and illuminating docuseries debuted, we’ve heard non-stop from fans who want to experience its unforgettable rooftop performance in IMAX,” says Megan Colligan, president of IMAX Entertainment. “We are so excited to partner with Disney to bring Get Back to an entirely new stage and give Beatles fans everywhere a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch and hear their heroes in the unrivalled sight and sound of IMAX.”

According to legend, the infamous rooftop concert was both unannounced yet an acute strategy to bring back attention to The Beatles as live performers after the release of the album Let It Be.

The Beatles in THE BEATLES: GET BACK

Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr had reached a level of global success unheard of in those days that quickly took them away from the pubs of Liverpool to sophisticated studio settings.

Harrison, who had also left the band to return, had previously stipulated that one of the conditions be that they not perform in front of large groups so this was a compromise between the boys.

Last 42 minutes, the Rooftop Concert would become the final public performance of their career.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones who live in Victoria, you can still watch it in good old fashion Gold Class – and earlier too. Get Back: The Rooftop Concert will show in all other states from February 10.
