It’s the film event of the year that everyone has been waiting for. In a magical remake of Disney’s most beloved film, a star studded list of guests stepped out overnight to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for the world premiere of The Lion King. Surrounding the red carpet, large boulders and shrub was encamped and while the theme of the evening was the African wild, a sense of nostalgia seeped through – in more ways than one.
While for an evening guests – including the likes of Beyoncé, Donald Glover and Jon Favreau – revisited ’90 cinema, red carpet style took a step back to the ’40s with variant iterations of the classic check suit. Serving as the main theme for men’s looks, Donald Glover, Icaro Silva, Niles Fitch and Cedric Yarbrough all donned the brave print in a range of colours and iterations. Banishing the basic tie, an open shirt dressed down the look for a modern interpretation.
Silva put an ’80s hip-hop spin on a burnt orange number, complete with scrunched up sleeves, choker and white sneakers. On the other hand and a change from the shirtless persona of Glover’s music alter ego, Childish Gambino, the rapper and actor swaggered along the red carpet in a well fitted, double breasted suit. In a cream and orange wide check, the look was finished off with burgundy monk strapped shoes.
Elsewhere, Beyoncé stole the show once again in an embellished Alexander McQueen gown while daughter Ivy was in hand wearing an accompanying look.
Directed by Jon Favreau and an all-star cast including Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen and James Earl Jones, the film is set to drop into Australian cinemas from July 17. Before running out to grab a check suit, tune into the trailer below.
We’re prepared to be blown away.
