Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it is likely you’ve seen or at least heard about the latest film sensation courtesy of Netflix Originals. Released last month, ‘Bird Box’ has been making its way onto the small screens across the globe and in response has sparked mass memes and yet another internet challenge. But new information has surfaced, suggesting that the thriller starring Sandra Bullock was supposed to look far different than the final cut.

The film follows a mother and her two children as they make a desperate bid to reach safety, five years after an ominous unseen presence drives the majority of society to suicide. Blindfolded, the family must navigate there way across the landscape to a safe haven. In the film, the ‘spirits’ are seen as gusts of wind, however makeup designer Andy Bergholtz shared what the creature could have looked like.

“Keep in mind, the fatal ‘vision’ that each character saw would most likely be different for each person,” he explained in the caption. “You’ll understand if you’ve seen the film. […] Considering her pregnant state and emotional arc thru the movie, the producers felt Sandra’s nightmare would have something to do with a twisted, demonic baby creature attacking her.”

The final decision to cut the creatures has created a powerful film however, with viewers forced to use their imagination to picture what the spirits could look like. And there is nothing more frightening than not knowing what could be after you.

Starring Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich and Jacki Weaver, the Netflix Original Bird Box is streaming now. Check it out if you haven’t already.
