After a street brawl landed Harlem-born rapper A$AP Rocky in jail last month, his unfortunate and highly-publicised stint abroad was short-lived as he entered the sound waves once again with a new track this week. Released just yesterday, Rocky’s ‘Babuska Boi’ video sits at over 2.6 million views, with his track – first debuted during his Injured Generation Tour earlier this year – making its way up the charts. Featuring A$AP Ferg, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Nast and Kamil Abbas, while the clip is teeming with potential references to his time in the slammer, we can’t get past his headscarf.

First worn to cover an injury sustained after falling off a scooter, A$AP Rocky officially debuted the look on the Trevor Noah show last year. Though it initially raised some eyebrows, the accessory of choice has become a trending signature look for the rapper and later he wore a Gucci iteration on the red carpet at the LACMA Art and Film Gala in Los Angeles. With a resurgence back onto the style sphere, it seems that the scarf is here to stay.

Within the high-production music video, while the sets and artistic interpretations are of a slightly bizarre nature, the street style ticks all the right boxes. Paired with a structured tweed blazer, wide-leg quilted pants and leather mules, it appears that Rocky is making old-school new again.

‘Babushka Boi’ was meant to be released earlier this summer but due to issues in Stockholm the launch was delayed. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to join the scarf movement.
