Hip hop superstar and certified business mogul™ Jay-Z has recently launched his own luxury weed brand, Monogram, in further proof celebrity products have come a long way since George Foreman’s range of grills.Jay z Monogram Collection

Currently only available in the States, Monogram promises “a new chapter in cannabis defined by dignity, care, and consistency.” The relationship between hip hop and weed culture is long and varied, with Jay himself often name-checking the drug in his lyrics.

In 1996’s “Feeling It” Jay rapped, “free my mind sometimes I hear myself moaning / Take one more toke and I leave that weed alone, man.”

But it seems like he couldn’t leave that weed alone, with Monogram set to be the first celebrity-backed luxury weed line. Monogram is split up into four different strains, each tailored to the needs of the individual.

No. 01
A cerebral strain to help chill, focus, and confidently tackle obstacles in your path. Complex with a sweet, herby smell up front that transitions to a skunky finish

No. 70
Our team changed the game when they developed this strain. Notes of sweet citrus and fresh pine give way to a spicy, hashy high that delivers intense sensation.

No. 88
Our flagship strain is the product of decades of experience in cultivating exceptional cannabis. This signature herb is sweet, spicy, and meticulously crafted to elevate your mind and soul.

No. 96
Delicious and heady in equal measure, this specialty cannabis has been cultivated to maximize bliss. Fruity aromas and a sherbert-like flavour precede a heady high that releases your mind.

Monogram represents a shift in the direction of celebrity product lines, a landscape once dominated by sneaker lines and sportswear.

Pop a Bottle

In more recent years the focus has shifted to booze and plenty of it. The world’s highest-paid actor (and most prominent legend), Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock runs Teremana Tequila. When he’s not making movies, Johnson puts serious time into promoting the brand.

Same goes for UFC star Conor McGregor, whose dedication to his whiskey line, Proper Twelve almost eclipses his achievements inside the ring. Proper Twelve has snowballed into far more than just a hobby for the Irishman, with Proper Twelve becoming a global brand.

Ryan Reynolds was one of the alcohol brand early adopters, buying a stake in Aviation Gin in 2018. Diageo—the world’s largest spirits and beers producer—bought Reynolds stake last year in a deal that could be worth up to USD 610 million. We’ll cheers to that.

Food for Thought

Once upon a time, the safest bet for a high profile star was to slap their name on a restaurant.

Not that he needs any more money, but Michael Jordan continues to earn profits from his chain of Michael Jordan Steakhouse restaurants. With a focus on fine dining Jordan’s steakhouse a far cry from another famous face in the food game, Mark Wahlberg’s Wahlburgers.

The burger chain is run by all nine Wahlberg siblings and is also a reality show, Wahlburgers.

Earlier this week it was announced that Mark Wahlberg had inked a deal to bring his Wahlburgers fast-food chain to Australia.

Signing off on over a $50 million deal, Marky Mark is planning to open in 15 locations across the country the first of which will be in Sydney’s Circular Quay in the coming months.

The way things are heading, we’ll soon have a celebrity product line for every occasion.

A puff of Jay’s Monogram, a sip of the Rock’s tequila and a bite of Mark’s burger. Sounds like the perfect day.
