When Robert Pattinson was first announced as the new Batman, the internet essentially lost it.“Sorry, what?!”, was the initial reaction that was received from our Art Director when I broke the news, and that was the general consensus from DC fans around the globe. But after major films including the forthcoming ‘The Batman’ was given the green light to film in the UK, a brand new trailer for the movie has been released.

Writer and director, Matt Reeves, revealed the trailer during a panel at a DC FanDome event on the weekend. He explained it wouldn’t be an origin story, but begins in “Year Two” of Batman’s storyline where the likes of protagonists, Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin are still in the early stages of their development.

With backing music set to Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’, the trailer spotlights the Riddler (played by Paul Dano) as he leaves a number of spooky teasers for the Batman and Commissioner Gordon (played Jeffery Wright). Robert Pattinson is shown in the Batman suit as well as moments of fight scenes and even the Batmobile, while fans are also given a glimpse of Zöe Kravitz as Catwoman.

The trailer is extremely impressive especially considering only 25 percent of the film has been shot and finalised. And proves why Reeves has Pattinson in the iconic role – his brooding stare, alluding presence and moody mannerisms are perfect for such superhero.

Also starring John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson and Andy Serkis, due to the global health crisis the film has been delayed from its original release date of June 2021 to October 2021. Tune into the trailer below as we eagerly wait.
