I admit I was somewhat hesitant to celebrate the casting of Gosling as Ken in the upcoming (and much-hyped) Barbie film starring Margot Robbie. But the actor’s gusto in embracing the himbo energy exuded by Barbie’s male cohort has converted me.
The 42-year-old actor was spotted sporting the latest addition to the classic Carrera line up while attending the movie’s press day in his native Canada. Gosling, who is also one of the current faces of the Tag HEUER brand, is one of the first to be seen wearing the pink Carrera Date.
It was first unveiled earlier this year at the annual Watches and Wonders in Geneva, alongside several other new dial colours including sage and a stunning sunray blue. But the pink, even before Gosling got his wrist into it, was the standout.
Along with new colourways, the Carrera Date was also launched with a new movement, updating from a Caliber 5 to the Caliber 7. Sizing was also somewhat streamlined (making them more gender neutral perhaps?), now 2mm thinner and downsizing to 41.6mm from the original 43.55mm.
Tag HEUER is the latest watch to add a bold colour dial to one of their legacy timepieces. Rolex did something similar with their Oyster Perpetual not too long ago, as did Omega with the Aqua Terra.
Even without the mega marketing that has gone on behind the scenes for Barbie or Gosling’s panache at selling the style, a hot pink Carrera is the kind of disruptive watch dreams are made of.
