Overnight, Barbie’s famous pink DreamHouse has appeared on AirBnB complete with disco rink and pool slide and the question on everyone’s lips is: how much marketing budget does Greta Gerwig actually have for this damned movie?
Because of course it’s part of the promotional push ahead of the biggest cinematic release of the year, Barbie.
The listing on AirBnB however states that the host isn’t in fact the famous blonde doll played by Margot Robbie but her equally blonde friend, Ken.
“Welcome to my Kendom! While Barbie is away, she has handed over the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer and my room could be yours for the night. I’ve added a few touches to bring some much-needed Kenergy to the newly renovated and iconic Malibu DreamHouse. Placed perfectly above the beach with panoramic views, this life-size toy pink mansion is a dream come true!”
Located in Malibu, the hot pink life-size replica of the Dream House includes everything a Barbie could want in her home: a matching hot-pink bedroom, the aforementioned pool slide into the perfect blue pool, a disco roller rink, gym, giant sandbox, and even a dirt bike and second cowboy-themed bedroom.
According to reports, the relaunching of the Barbie pad also came with a press release about how they and one other person could live like a Ken for the night.
“Ken is inviting two lucky guests to stay in the newly revamped Malibu DreamHouse in all its Kendom glory. While Barbie is away, Ken is listing his room in her iconic Malibu DreamHouse on Airbnb and bringing Barbie’s all-pink world back by popular demand.”
Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has become a monster as far the almost fever-like anticipation being drummed up for the movie’s release in on July 20. It’s inspired entire Barbiecore fashion trends including heralding the return of the himbo.
The all-star cast behind the two leads includes Dua Lipa as Mermaid Barbie (and John Cena as Merman Ken), Simu Liu (also, as a Ken).
