The forthcoming Matrix film has long been in the works as well as the centre of a slew of rumours. There was confusion over the involvement of the Wachowskis on the new film and it took even longer to confirm the return of OG actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. Amid the pandemic, filming for The Matrix 4 was halted and despite an initial release date of May 21, 2021, it will now change significantly.
Many films set to be summer blockbusters in the U.S. have been postponed for later in the year, but as expected, that has had a knock-on affect. Now, The Matrix 4 will be pushed back a full year for a new release date of April 1, 2022. This will also mean the next instalment won’t release the same day as John Wick 4.
In addition, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been pushed back several months while this week it was announced that the hotly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 film would be postponed until October 2020. In fresh James Bond news, fans will see a slightly earlier release date than originally planned with No Time To Die to drop on November 20, 2020.
In some good film news, major films including The Batman and Fantastic Beasts 3 have been given the green light to begin filming in the UK.
The Matrix was first released in 1999 with two more sequels released in 2003. Stay tuned for further developments.
