When Uniqlo unveilied its first Lemaire ‘Uniqlo U’ Capsule Collection way back in 2016, it was bold step forward for the Japanese retailer who hadn’t quite hit the sweet spot in terms of fashion-forward ready-to-wear staples.

Christophe Lemaire’s Uniqlo U collection changed all of the that.

Uniqlo U highlighted a minimalist approach to dressing juxtaposed with the timeless Parisian style that artist director Christophe Lemaire (of ‘Lemaire‘ fame) is renowned for.

“The Uniqlo U line is built from a very Uniqlo point of view, it is rooted in the very DNA of Uniqlo, elevated basics, an ideal version of Uniqlo. From the very beginning, we had this slogan from Charles and Ray Eames in mind: ‘The best for the most for the least,'” Lemaire told Vogue in 2016.

Lemaire took the approach of minimal, utilitarian-inspired everyday basics that can be worn as hero separates just as well as building blocks for a more layered, tran-seasonal approach. Collarless long-sleeved shirts, ribbed merino wool sweaters and oversize coats in neutral-tone palates were an immediate hit.

Now, six years on, the Uniqlo U line continues to grow, season on season, and for this coming Autumn/Winter season, introduces a collection that is ‘Future Forward’.

Designed by Christophe Lemaire himself, as well as his Uniqlo R&D team in Paris, the collection presents clothing for now and the future. Meaning, you’ll be investing in a timeless staple that is just as relevant amid the current fashion trends as it will be in five or ten years’ time.

Softness and layering feature heavily in this collection; items that can be utilised whilst relaxing at home, commuting to work, walking in the park or heading out on the town.

The Uniqlo R&D team, under the watchful eye of Lemaire, has reimagined everyday clothing using innovative materials and new, contemporary silhouettes that form a modern wardrobe for the modern man, woman and child.

The collection is filled with refined neutrals, nature-inspired hues and bright accents in a harmonious and calming palette. Think oversized parkas and car coats, wide-leg trousers, mock neck sweaters, oversized hoodies and sweatpants, plus more.

The full Uniqlo U collection will be available online at Uniqlo and exclusively at Uniqlo Emporium, Chadstone and Mid City stores from March 10.
