Unfortunately, things seem to be going from bad to worse as coronavirus spreads across the globe. Hype was building this week after Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson touched down in Australia in time for production on a new film. Breaking this afternoon, Hanks has revealed that both him and his partner have both come down with virus.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Mr. Hanks said in a statement. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

He added that he and Ms. Wilson “will be tested, observed and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.”

“Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated,” he said.

According to The Guardiancast and crew connected to the upcoming film by Baz Luhrmann – a much-publicised Elvis Presley biopic – received an email instructing them to stay away from set after a member of the production tested positive for the virus. Hanks will play the role of Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s manager who groomed the famous singer to stardom in the 1950s. The film is scheduled to begin filming on Monday but doubts loom.

As of Wednesday, 120 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in Australia.
