Two New York icons: Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Jeans and the estate of the late and great artist Keith Haring have teamed up to launch a capsule collection that pays homage to their shared revolutionary roots.

Featuring Haring’s infamous graphic stencils and designs reprinted across the surface of Tommy Jeans familiar prep pieces but also tapping into more nostalgic streetwear favoured by the hip hop scene. Easy-wearing items like T-shirts, denim and sweats appear alongside wool varsity jackets and unisex denim jacket that has a patchwork of Haring’s famous dancing figure. The collection is a joyous retrospective of New York in the 80s.

Both Haring and Hilfiger came of age during the New York in the 80s, a period where music, art and fashion were becoming integrated within a new wave of pop culture synthesis. Haring, whose closest friends included fellow provocateurs Madonna and Jean-Michel Basquiat, sat at the threshold of this wave with the desire to democratise art for the people. Hilfiger had similar ideas for the world of fashion, putting the spotlight on the world of streetwear as a fashion movement in its own right.

In a statement about the collaboration, Hilfiger recalls the the connection between his own brand and Haring lies in the streets of the city itself, where Tommy Hilfiger became the brand of choice amongst New York’s subcultures and where Haring built his career as an artist in the graffiti scene.
