Last month, it was announced that Disney+ would harbour Beyonce’s new visual album Black Is King. Inspired by the 2019 remake film, The Lion King which also stars the artist, it is set to be one of the most hotly-anticipated drops onto the streaming service. With a release date of July 31, we have finally been treated to a trailer.

“The film reimagines the lessons from the 2019 blockbuster [The Lion King] for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns,” says the official description. It will launch two weeks after the anniversary of the film.

With credits in writing and producing Black Is King, Beyoncé has described the film as a “labour of love”. “It is my passion project that I have been filming, researching, and editing day and night for the past year. I’ve given it my all and now it’s yours. It was originally filmed as a companion piece to The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack and meant to celebrate the breadth and beauty of Black ancestry. I could never have imagined that a year later, all the hard work that went into this production would serve a greater purpose,” she wrote in an Instagram post last month.
