In the heart of Sydney, French maison Hermès presents Infinite Rainbow, a new artistic collaboration with Australian artist Kate Rohde. The exhibit, a fusion of art and design, showcases Rohde’s whimsical and vibrantly coloured resin sculptures and vessels, transforming the Hermès store into a realm where nature meets the supernatural.

Rohde’s affinity for nature’s profusion, inspired by her upbringing in the lush Dandenong Ranges, is evident in her creations. The exhibition features reinterpretations of Hermès icons like the Birkin and Kelly bags, playfully reimagined as vases, embodying the house’s theme, “Astonishing Hermès!”

The store’s interior is an enchanting photobooth, complete with a leafy arbor, throne, chandelier, and a riot of colours. This immersive experience reflects Hermès’ legacy of artistic freedom and creativity, a hallmark of the French house known for its dedication to craftsmanship and innovative design.

Rohde, a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (2001), is renowned for her sculptured objects and installations. Her practice involves hand modelling and casting techniques, creating functional and sculptural pieces. Expanding her repertoire, Rohde has ventured into large-scale digital prints, wallpapers, and furniture, crafting immersive environments. Her diverse skills have found expression in various creative fields.

The Infinite Rainbow window display at the Sydney boutique, a testament to the harmonious blend of artistry and luxury, will be on view until February 2024. It’s a visual celebration where Rohde’s artistic vision meets the aesthetic elegance and creative spirit of Hermès, inviting the curious and enchanted to explore a world where fantasy and fashion coalesce.
